Developed collaboratively by the Go8
universities, the Future Research Leaders Program seeks to equip
current and aspiring resesearch leaders with the skills and knowledge
critical to successful research leadership and management in today's
highly competitive global environment.
Program
structure
Program
participants commence with an online induction/orientation
module, Settling
In: The Researcher's Guide to Your University, designed
for researchers who are new to Go8 universities.
The
subsequent eight modules seek to prepare participants for future roles
as managers of research grants and leaders of research teams. These
modules explore the roles and responsibilities that researchers assume
as project managers, as research supervisors, as team leaders and as
centre leaders.
Each module will comprise
independent-study online learning material that is completed prior to
an end-of-module workshop. The total time commitment for participants
will be in the order of 8 to 16 hours per module. The modules can be
undertaken in any order.
The eight modules target the development of
specific capabilities in the following areas:
- Research Strategy and Planning
- Commencement and Collaboration: Putting
Ideas into Practice
- Governance and Compliance: Protecting
Yourself, Your Research and Your University
- Intellectual Property and
Commercialisation
- Financial, Resource and Risk Management
- Grant and Contract Administration
- Managing and Leading People in a Research

- Project Closeout

Early to mid-career researchers working towards leadership roles, as
well as established research leaders, should all benefit from taking
the program.
For researchers - improved grant
prospects
These
modules will enable you to improve your ability to gain research grants
and your ability to manage projects successfully. Major granting bodies
strongly support participation in this initiative because they believe
that researchers who have participated in it will be more likely to
make the best use of their grant funding.
For
Heads of School/Discipline - research leadership and development
strategies
The
program will provied you with an enhanced array of research management
and leadership skills. It also provides an avenue for professional
development in research management for your staff, presenting an
opportunity for you to discuss participation in the program with them
in the course of their Performance and Developmetn Review process.
For
Executive Deans & Associate Deans (Research) - enhanced
research quality and research impact
The program provides you with an avenue to improve the quality and
impact of research management within your Faculty.
